Microsoft Visio has been a personal favourite of mine since I first encountered it about ten years ago. I immediately liked the simple interface, the ease of navigation and the familiar controls, and it wasn’t long before I had figured out how to churn out very respectable diagrams, much to the delight of my boss at the time.
One of my early attempts was to describe in a visual manner the complicated process that a legal system had to go through. The process was complex and, since it was part of a government initiative, incredibly constrained by “red tape”. Looking at the documentation that existed gave me a headache, but once I had established which bit of the process followed which it was a straightforward exercise to put it in diagram form.
It was a hit with everyone who saw it, luckily, and was eventually adopted by the government department that was responsible for the process. Sadly, the whole thing ran out of money (where have we heard that before?) and the Microsoft Visio diagram perished along with the rest.
But my liking of the software hasn’t faded over the years, and in fact I have another site dedicated to it here: Visio Tutorial. In this course we aim to cover the basics of Microsoft Visio and get delegates to a point at which they can create diagrams and drawings with ease, make some formatting changes and add enough features to make the drawing useful. This Microsoft Office Visio Tutorial will ensure that delegates who attend will be able to use the software in a commercial situation as soon as they return to the office.
